How? That is the first question we ask to get started. There are times that we want to do something but we can’t proceed because we don’t even know what to do first. Now our insecurities and doubts grow that we can’t do what we want to do and we have to change plans.
In this blog, I will share 7 steps on how to get started in freelancing so if you’re into this and thinking of how you’ll going to start as a freelancer then you’re on the right track baby you will earn this way! 🎶😂 but before that, I’d like to share some experience of mine on how I become an Online Filipino Worker.

How did I become an Online Filipino Worker?
I started as a freelancer in 2017. Before I left my corporate job, I am really into freelancing but my start was not really good.
The first thing I did was to get an Internet connection. I got to apply with the help of my partner. I was not able to personally apply as I don’t have a valid ID at that time so, that means my connection was named under my partner’s and not mine but of course I am the one who pays for it, even until now.
After that, as I am browsing social media, I had found a group that provides online courses so I enrolled there, and to be officially enrolled, I had to pay and think of it as an investment as I will learn and gain some online skills from it.
I don’t even have a Laptop or PC at that time but that circumstance didn’t stop me. This proves that if you really into something you will always find a way. You won’t stop until the world gets tired of annoying you. I got help from my partner again, he let me borrow his laptop to study the course. After a month of studying the online course, I had graduated with a Gold Certificate! And I use that when I am submitting a proposal to the clients and Applied all the learning I got from the online course to land my first online job.
Steps on How to get Started as a Freelancer
As you may have noticed above, I highlighted some words, and those are actually hinted on how to get started. What I’ll be sharing with you below are my personal knowledge and experiences on how I get started.
1st Set up Connections– Not just people or friends in social media but a proper Internet Connection is a must!
2nd Get a Laptop/PC– Without this, you can’t just start. You might end up renting in computer shops.
3rd Search! Search! Searching is the key– Don’t just ask how. If you are too curious about it then start googling. Don’t just depend on someone’s answer to your how’s. Learn to make an effort to know the answer. Most clients prefer freelancers who learn on their own.
4th Invest in yourself. What I mean by this is to learn or gain relevant skills. If you had found a great course, you must not doubt to get enrolled in paid courses. Don’t just focus on the skills you have now. From time to time learn to get updated & upgrade your skills
5th Prepare a good CV/Resume– Get ready also for a cover note and be creative on making your CV. Use it appropriately by applying to jobs that you know you can do.
6th Sign up to Online Job Platforms– You can find a lot of these. Don’t just focus on Upwork. Complete your profile before applying to jobs and check it from time to time. You might lose or miss the opportunities coming right after you!
7th Set up and complete your Social Media Accounts– Advertise yourself & your business. Join some group of freelancers and don’t forget the # (hashtags) because you might get a client there.
Most of all, you need to have Patience…Patience… and a lot of Patience. You’re lucky enough if you got hired on your 1st day submitting your proposals. Don’t just give up easily though if you don’t receive responses to your applications. It may take some time (weeks or even months) to get a client. Don’t stop learning, keep watching, and reading.
